Job Description
The role of the Warehouse Engineering Solution Design Manager is to design contract logistic warehouse solution and work closely with the different company warehouse to help in the area of manpower planning (both inbound and outbound), equipment planning and warehouse racking system.
Key Responsibilities
- Research/Analysis:
- Ensures all distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., warehouse management, labor management, slotting and reporting applications
- Establishes work measurement programs and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilization
- Analyzes contractual commitments, customer specifications, design changes and other data to drive continuous improvement and meet or exceed expectations of customer
- Performs special research or technical studies critical to logistic support functions
- Performs cost/benefit tradeoff analysis and develop ROI business cases for recommended projects involving process, system or technology change
- Forecasts facility, vehicle, staffing and/or material handling equipment needs in order to improve cost, utilization, service, and efficiencies
- Conducts studies to determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow by analyzing production costs, process flow charts, and production schedules
- Recommends methods for maximizing the utilization of production facilities and personnel by restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing equipment in adherence with governmental, health, safety, and other regulations.
- Provides labor planning tool tailored to the clients business and agreed upon operating processes
- Identifies and procures all necessary capital expense items to support successful launch of operation
- Full understanding of the approved Solutions Model tied to the clients award of business to DSV
- Participation in Advance Quality Planning sessions with new clients validating requirements and processes
- Determines and gains agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantity
- Partners with key functional groups that are part of implementation (HR, IT, Operations, etc.) to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Develops and provides action items to Project Management that will lead to successful implementation
- Documentation/Reporting:
- Document and communicate common processes for all distribution functions within scope of responsibility
- Review data and summarize expectations to address gaps in operation
- Identify areas for improvement based on analysis of data and observations
- Communication:
- Communicate opportunities for improvement in the distribution network
- Help determine key metrics and provide recommendations to guide management
- Assist with developing/presenting training materials and classes for distribution processes
- Relationships:
- Bring cross-functional teams together to collaborate on projects
- Support the labor management program, including methods and procedures, engineered labor standards, incentive programs and program policies
- Ensure alignment among all operations policies, procedures and ongoing improvement projects
- LEAN Operations:
- Facilitate LEAN methodology and recommend solutions to specific business case issues
- Understand and apply essential LEAN elements like workflow smoothing, JIT.
- May support continual improvement programs, Kaizen events, and workshops
- Set the standard for innovation within strategic and operational problem solvin
- Project Management:
- Assist with developing and rolling outgrowth strategies and projects
- Determine feasibility of projects factoring costs, available space, schedule limitations, company goals, technical requirements and economic factors
- Develop and implement project activities plans and timelines, coordinate subcontractors, facility management and field service personnel, and resolve problems in area of logistics to ensure meeting of contractual commitments
Skills & Experiences
- Minimum of 4 years of warehouse management and operations experience.
- Experience designing warehouse racking system and experience managing warehouse manpower, and also equipment management.
- Strong writing skills with experience documenting design methodologies to create logistics solutions and responses to RFPs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Work, and Power Point)
- Intermediate to advanced mathematical skill to calculate label utilisation based on weather for product suitability
- Strong attention to detail accuracy and accomplishes job task in a timely manner
- Experience in implementation and/or steady state execution
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail
- Project management skills experience
- Able to develop and deliver presentations to managers and executives
- Keeps informed of technical changes and industry trends
- Competent in cost modelling, resource modelling & space modelling.
