NERA was established in Malaysia when its predecessor EB Communications (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was incorporated in November 1981. Since then, the company has played a prominent role in the development of Malaysia’s infrastructure and technology based within the telecommunications and information technology industry. Soon after its formation, the company enjoyed early successes by supplying SCADA systems, power line carrier equipments and military telephone sets to the oil and gas, power and defence industries. The company was also known as EB (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and ABB Nera (M) Sdn Bhd before it became Nera (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd after its separation from the ABB Group in January 1995.
In 1990, the company formed a datacommunications division to manage its point-of-sales (POS) business and appointed business partners throughout the country to support a nation-wide installed base. This was the beginning of the company’s venture into information technology, a business area that expanded into the networking infrastructure and security solutions sector. In December 1999, a new company, Nera Infocom (M) Sdn Bhd was formed to focus and strengthen Nera’s participation in Malaysia’s exciting information technology development.
Today, Nera services a broad base of important clients in the sectors of Telecommunications, Oil and Gas, Utilities, Financial Services and Retail, Transportation, Government, Enterprise and Media and Broadcasting.
