Key Responsibilities
- 1. Provider of Care
- Act as a provider of nursing care by using the Clinical Pathway / Nursing Process to formulate and maintain individualized nursing care plans by:
- Assessing patients: Collects and contributes to a database and identifies and documents changes in health status which interferes with patients' Activities of Daily Living
- Planning for Nursing care: Identifies, establishes and develops individualized care plans
- Implementing the Care Plans: Carries out individualized plans of care according to priority of needs and established nursing protocols
- Intervene in situations when unexpected and emergency situations happen
- 2. Role as a Patient Educator
- Assess situations for need of information or support to maintain health
- Develop short-range teaching plans based upon long and short-range goals for individual patient
- Implement, support and reinforce the teaching plans
- Evaluate the effectiveness of patient's learning
- 3. Role as a Communicator
- Assess verbal and non-verbal communication of patients, families and significant others based upon knowledge and techniques of interpersonal communication
- Use line of authority and communication channel within the work setting appropriately
- Document and record assessment, nursing care plans, interventions and evaluation accurately and promptly
- Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, families, significant others and health team members
- 4. Role as a Member within the Profession of Nursing
- Be responsible for her / his nursing practice and practice within the professions ethical and legal framework
- Consult with the Team Leader in the absence of Nurse Manager when patients problems are not within the scope of practice
- Encourage to participate within a structured role in research (e.g. data collection)
- Work within the policies of the employing institution (TMC)
- Recognize policies and nursing protocols that may impede patient care and work within the organizational framework to initiate change
- 5. For specialised nursing areas, specific Job Duties & Responsibilities are detailed in the employees initial on the Job Training (OJT)
- At all times, to maintain strict confidentiality of any information you may become aware of during the course of your duties
- Enhance professional growth and development through reading of relevant literature, as well as attendance to relevant training programmes (internal & external)
- Perform other tasks / duties as assigned
Skills & Experiences
- Diploma in Nursing and possess Annual Practicing Certificate
- Minimum 2 years experience as ICU nurse
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Has strong clinical, assessment, communication and observational skills
